the players championship – final

Stephen Ames (who?) ran the hell away with this one, firing a final round 67 to get to -14 and blow away the closest guy, Retief Goosen, by 6 shots.  This from a guy who told reporters that he could beat Tiger at the World Match Play Championship in their first round match-up – and ended up going out 9 and 8.  (Non Golfers: that means he got his ass and part of his lower back kicked.)

Other notables:  Vijay, -3; Phil and Sergio, -2; Tiger, +1; John Freaking Daly, +6.  Meltdown of the day: Rich Beem shoots a final round 85 and drops like a stone to +11.  Shooting par today would have left him tied for 14th.  He ended up tied for 66th.  Ouch.

This week's tournament: The Bell South Classic.  At Sugarloaf.  Phil Mickleson defending.  Almost no one cares.  Because in 2 weeks, it's the Masters!
